The High Altar
The high (or main) altar is the focal point of the church, around which the worshipping community gathers Sunday by Sunday in obedience to Jesus's command to celebrate its eucharist (or thanksgiving) in remembrance of the death and resurrection of God's own Son.

Behind the altar is a reredos (carved screen), designed and painted in a medieval style, by Christopher Webb (1950), which was given in memory of William and Annie Wallace by their daughters.
The central panel depicts the Crucifixion (which is why no other cross stands on this altar).
