St Mary's Eaton Bray: August 2007
St Mary's Parochial Church Council Meeting
June meeting
The meeting was held on 14th June at All Saints Church Dagnall.
It was noted that, sadly in common with all public buildings, we will have to display No Smoking signs by the church doors from July 1st 2007. The concert by pupils of Edlesborough School, held in St Mary’s in aid of Christian Aid, had been very successful. The children and young people involved had put on an excellent performance for a very appreciative audience. Over £520 was raised for Christian Aid during the evening.
Another well supported event was the now annual "Open Gardens" day on Sunday 9th June. The weather was kind and we were all able to enjoy the day. Funds raised will be split between the Chiltern MS Centre and St Mary’s Roof fund. This is expected to be in excess of £2,600.
July meeting
All of the members of the PCC asked Peter Bennett to pass on their congratulations to the Carnival Committee on a highly successful event. It was a wonderful day for the community and succeeded in raising a record amount for local good causes.
The PCC was pleased to continue the established policy of subsidising the rent payable by the Village Hall. This year the rent is to be reduced from £2939 per annum to £758, a discount of £2,181 or 75%.
The Harvest Supper and Barn Dance is to be revived and will take place on Saturday 29th September in Eaton Bray Village Hall. Tickets will be £7.50 for adults, £3.50 for children and a family ticket (2 children) for £20.
The monthly coffee morning hosted by The Friends of St Mary’s will move to the first Saturday of the month at 10.30am with effect from September.
We took a further step towards becoming a Fairtrade Parish by agreeing to use Fairtrade teas and coffees at Church events. We will redouble our efforts to use other Fairtrade products wherever possible.
Preliminary details were provided of the 2008 Flower Festival which will take place in St Mary’s Eaton Bray over the weekend of 19th – 21st September. This will be a weekend of spectacular floral displays and events in the church.
The Welcome Pack is ready to go to print and will be available for distribution shortly.

Vicar's Letter - August/September 2007
As I write, we are making last minute preparations for our summer holiday: organizing currency, checking routes, looking through last year's clothes to see what simply must be replaced - and in my own case sorting out all the church duties which have to be covered while I am away. There is always a build up of stress before a holiday, but it is great when you can just sit back, relax and enjoy a different routine and different experiences.
