The Diocese is challenging everyone during Lent to read a verse or two from St Luke's Gospel with the simple formula to 'read it, learn it, pray it, do it'. Have a look at the website www.challenge2010.org.

Here are the verses for the next two weeks:

  • Wednesday 17 February: Jesus said, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor". Luke 4.18a
  • Thursday 18 February: Jesus said "God has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free". Luke 4.18b-19
  • Friday 19 February: Jesus saw a tax-collector named Levi sitting at the tax booth; and said to him, "Follow me". He got up, left everything, and followed him. Luke 5.27-28
  • Saturday 20 February: The Jesus looked up at his disciples and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God". Luke 6.20
  • Sunday 21 February: Jesus said, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you". Luke 6.27-28
  • Monday 22 February: Jesus said, "Do to others as you would have them do to you". Luke 6.31
  • Tuesday 23 February: Jesus said, "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who hurt them". Like 6.32
  • Wednesday 24 February: Jesus said, "Do not judge and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven". Luke 6.37
  • Thursday 25 February: Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back". Luke 6.38
  • Friday 26 February: Jesus said, "How can you say to your neighbour, 'Friend, let me take out the speck in your eye', when you do not see the log in your own eye?" Luke 6.42
  • Saturday 27 February: Jesus said, "The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, an the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil". Luke 6.27-28
