St. Mary's Day of Prayer
Ladies from all the local churches met together on Friday afternoon 4th March, to celebrate the Day of Prayer at St Mary's, Eaton Bray. The service this year was written by the ladies of Chile, entitled "How many loaves have you ?". The service was led by Deirdrea Ellins with various ladies taking the reading parts throughout the service.
Canon Christine Farrington was the speaker and spoke firstly about the background of Chile and then related to the question Jesus asked, "How many loaves have you?".
The search reveals five loaves and two fish-a boy's picnic. After being blessed by Jesus, the five loaves and two fish are given to the multitude that had gathered and after they had all had their fill, 12 baskets of fragments were gathered up.
Then there was a widow in Zarephath, she had food only for one meal. She shares the little she has left with Elijah, she gives him the last thing she has, water and bread to a stranger.God shows Himself in the small details.
So each one of us is asked to share our gifts and talents whatever they are, with others around us, villagers, neighbours, friends and family, offering them friendship and love in the service of others. All we are prepared to give can be used.
As a thank you, a plant was presented to Christine Farrington and one to Joan who each year plays the piano for the service.
A tea prepared by the Ladies Guild followed with the opportunity to chat and catch up with all the news.
Next year's service will be at Eaton Bray Methodist Church.
