A sunny afternoon greeted the members at the February meeting where they were warmly welcomed. A birthday card and wishes were given to Muriel Seymour.

Notices were given out. The Guild would host the tea at the World Day of Prayer, at St Mary’s on Friday 4th March at 2.00pm, when the speaker would be Canon Christine Farrington. A coffee morning for church funds would be held on Saturday 28th May 10-12. Help would be needed on both of these occasions.

The devotions were very ably led by Wendy Watson.

The members saw the welcome return of Nigel Watson, who enthralled everyone with his wonderful slides of the Galapagos Islands.

Nigel told how the Galapagos Islands offered a unique opportunity to view animals in their natural habitat, which are completely unafraid of humans. The islands, which belong to Equador, straddle the Equator about 600 miles off the coast of South America.

The hot dry climate is ideal for reptiles such as the giant tortoise, land iguanas, marine iguanas (the only marine lizards in the world).

Galapagos are home for many seabirds such as frigates, blue footed, red footed and the Galapagos penguin. The pictures of these were superb and many hours must have been spent photographing them. Most of all, the photos of the seals and their young and the Galapagos sealions were the most endearing.

Nigel was thanked and given a gift and thank you card by June Thorne. A lovely tea followed with a raffle and bring and buy to keep everyone busy.

Next months meeting is on Wednesday 9th March at 2.00pm, when the speaker will be Don Taylor from the Child Contact Centre, who will speak about his involvement.

There will be a raffle and bring and buy as we continue to raise money for our chosen projects Mercy Ships and Smile Train.

New members are always welcome, come and give us a try!
