Send a Cow - Livestock for Life
Send a Cow is a charity set up 14 years ago by a group of British Christian Farmers. Originally, as the name suggests, they sent cows from their own herds to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Lesotho and Ethiopia, but now the charity arranges the local purchase of not just cows, but also goats, pigs and poultry, as well as bees and fruit tree saplings. The effect of this work is that whole communities benefit from having fresh milk, eggs, fruit and honey, with any surplus being sold to help the local economy.
St Mary's, Eaton Bray, took up the challenge, and thanks to the generosity of the Four Villages community has raised over £1,600 in little more than four months from a range of activities:
Bring & Buy Plant Sale | £260 |
Carnival Stall | £182 |
Cream Teas at Edna's | £750 |
Cake Raffle | £22 |
Donations | £230 |
Make-up Demonstration | £180 |
Total to date | £1,624 |
With thanks to all those who have hosted events and supported them, we are well on our way to our target of £2,000 by the end of the year. This will be enough o buy a whole farmyard comprising a cow, four goats, three pigs, four flocks of poultry, five hives of bees, 600 fruit trees and a week's training.
