Summer events - our thanks
In the wettest early summer on record St Mary's was blessed with good weather for two of its major fund-raising events of the year: Open Gardens on 10 June and Carnival on 7 July.
Between them the two events raised over £15,000 benefiting St Mary's Fabric Fund and local good causes. Such sums require the considerable effort and generosity of many people and members of the congregation can be rightly delighted with the outcome. Thanks go to everyone who contributed in any way to the two events.
You will be aware that plans are already under way for similar events in 2008 - the relevant dates for your diaries are 8 June and 5 July. We are confident in having Graeme Knowles, the Dean of St Paul's, coming to open the Carnival with his wife. Graeme has strong local links, having been born and brought up in Dunstable, and many people will remember his father, Stan Knowles, who was headmaster at Eaton Bray School during the 1970s and 80s.
