Bishop Smith announces his arrival on YouTube
The Right Rev Alan Smith, yesterday named by the Prime Minister as the tenth Bishop of St Albans, had his first interaction with the majority of worshippers in his new diocese through the website YouTube, on which he posted a three-minute video greeting.
Bishop Smith, 51, who is currently Bishop of Shrewsbury and will take up his new post at Easter, succeeds the Right Rev Christopher Herbert, who retired last week on his 65th birthday.
In a first for the Church of England, he told YouTube viewers he was both "excited and daunted" by his new appointment.
The video is available here on YouTube if it doesn't appear above.
