Since early days, Christians have kept with devotion the time of our Lord's Passion and Resurrection. The custom of the church is to prepare for this by keeping the season of Lent, beginning this coming Wednesday/Ash Wednesday.

We are invited therefore, to begin this observance by taking stock of our lives; perhaps seeing any ways in which we may have ignored God/turned away from Him. This will include self-examination and repentance. Obviously we can achieve this by payer, fasting and self-denial/by reading and meditating on God's holy word, particularly in the Bible, or other helpful spiritual books.

We can begin our serious observance of Lent by coming to one of the services on Ash Wednesday. There we may receive (if we wish) the simple ceremony of the Imposition of Ashes on our forehead as an age-long expression of penitence, sorrow for sin and faith. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday 17 February with services at 10am and 7.30pm.
