Challenge 2010

The Diocese is challenging everyone during Lent to read a verse or two from St Luke's Gospel with the simple formula to 'read it, learn it, pray it, do it'. Have a look at the website www.challenge2010.org.

Here are the verses for the coming week:

• Sunday 14 March: Jesus answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her". Luke 10.41-42
• Monday 15 March: Jesus said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed by your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread". Luke 11.2
• Tuesday 16 March: Jesus said, "Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened". Luke 11.9-10
• Wednesday 17 March: While Jesus was saying this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you!" But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!" Luke 11.27-28
• Thursday 18 March: Jesus said, "Your eye is the lamp of your body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light; but if it is not healthy, your body is full of darkness". Luke 11.34
• Friday 19 March: Jesus said, "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God's sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows". Luke 12.6-7
• Saturday 20 March: Jesus said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing". Luke 12.22-23
